IPL laser for skin corrections
WHAT IS IPL LASER FOR SKIN CORRECTIONS?
Many people worldwide are looking for non invasive treatments that can correct various unwanted red patches and brown marks on the face, neck, décolleté and the back of the hands.
Limelight therapy is an advanced type of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) procedure that uses different light wavelengths to correct the pigment in the skin layers. This reduces discoloration and achieves a more even skin tone. The treatment is highly customised according to individual patient needs.
Limelight IPL safely treats and improves a wide range of surface skin imperfections such as:
- Uneven skin tone
- Enlarged pores
- Individual fine veins (telangiectasia)
- Overall blotchiness
- Freckles
- Minor skin texture imperfections
- Red cheeks resulting from dilated capillaries
- Dark discoloration and age spots caused by sun exposure.
This procedure can treat many areas of the body. It is most widely used on areas that are often exposed to the sun (i.e. the face, hands, arms, shoulders and back).
MEDI-FACT:
Limelight IPL is sometimes also called photo-rejuvenation because it uses a process called phototherapy that involves wavelengths of light.
HOW IT WORKS:
This procedure is designed to reduce the damage done to the upper layers of the dermis by exposure to the sun. A handheld device uses three pre-set programs to emit different wavelengths of IPL light into the top layer of the dermis.
The light pulses transfer precisely controlled heat to specific pigmented areas, which is absorbed by the melanin pigment and blood in tiny blood vessels.
The heat encourages the brown and/or red skin cells to spread more evenly. This reduces discoloration, resulting in a smoother, more even skin tone.
Each wave of pulsed light lasts no more than a few seconds and causes a mild stinging or pinching sensation. A Limelight procedure is customized according to skin type. It safely treats specific areas without damaging the skin surface.
While treatment time depends on the size and area being treated, one session can take between five and 30 minutes.
WHY IT CAN HELP YOU:
Limelight IPL is a non-invasive light-based treatment that rejuvenates the skin, improves skin tone and reduces skin surface imperfections linked to sun exposure and aging. It is also one of the fastest methods for treating skin discolorations associated with rosacea.
RESULTS: WHAT TO EXPECT:
Limelight IPL can produce dramatic results on the face, neck and chest area. However, results are progressive. Significant improvements are usually seen a few weeks after the initial treatment.
The full benefits of the procedure may only be visible after a few months.
Patients with severe skin damage usually see the most dramatic improvements.
Optimal results are typically seen after about four Limelight IPL sessions spaced one month apart. This procedure also gets very good results with light (low contrast) brown spots, which were previously difficult to treat.
Additional IPL laser treatments may be necessary for densely covered pigmentation, very dark or large spots or skin with excessive sun damage.
KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS:
- Minimal discomfort
- Quick and convenient
- Non invasive
- Little to no downtime – you can resume your normal daily activities immediately afterwards
- Effective way to safely remove any visible spots and superficial skin imperfections caused by sun damage and aging.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
Immediately after treatment, areas of brown spots and areas of pigmentation targeted during the procedure will begin to darken. These dark areas will gradually start fading. They will come off naturally within one to three weeks after the procedure.
Following an IPL laser treatment, you skin may also appear slightly red and swollen around the treated area. Both these side effects are temporary and usually only last a few hours.
If the procedure has treated fine veins or general redness, there may be a blushing appearance. This will gradually lighten over three to five treatments.
Make up can be used to cover up any redness during this time. Your doctor will advise you to completely avoid tanning, sun exposure and using fake tan products for the duration of the course of treatment.
Limelight IPL treatments work best on people with light to medium skin tones. Individuals with a darker pigmentation may not be suitable candidates for this procedure. Your doctor will assess your particular skin type beforehand and let you know if the treatment will work for you.
Over time, you may develop new brown spots, telangiectasia and diffuse redness if you do not protect yourself against further sun damage. It is strongly advised to always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of +30 or higher to avoid exposure to harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays.
Limelight IPL treatments are generally not advised for people who suffer from epilepsy, or for individuals who cannot tolerate flashing lights.
